We shot Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End together, so it was quite a lengthy run for the art department. Jack Sparrow’s compass was redeveloped early on to more clearly indicate it pointed towards one’s true desire (and not north). Beckett’s map of the world had three iterations, each more complete than the one before to convey the passage of time and the scope of his plans as he pursued global domination. The mark of the East India Trading Company was applied to all manner of items: flags, barrels, burlap sacks, tins, signs and of course all of Beckett’s paperwork.
